Homemade Greek Mountain Sausage

Sausage lovers, here’s a word to memorize before you travel to Greece: “loukaniko”. As you may have guessed, it’s the Greek word for sausage. According to Chris, at HarvesTime Foods, sausages can have some regional flavors. “The loukaniko we grew up on is made with a combination of beef and pork. We add green onions, leeks, and dry onions to the meat – so there’s plenty of oniony goodness. We also mix in parsley, crushed red pepper, salt, pepper, and a splash of wine. So when you’re at HarvesTime, ask for our Loukaniko, made using my grandfather’s recipe.”

Savory and flavorful, the best way to enjoy Loukaniko would be as a hor dourves with a bit of dijon mustard and a splash of lemon.

Homemade Orange Peel Greek Loukaniko

For another delicious option, travel with us to Greece’s southern region: the Peloponnese. It is best known for sandy beaches, fine olive oil, and exceptional wine. The locals make a delicious sausage that features pork seasoned with cinnamon, black pepper, salt, and orange peel. We invite you to bring our version of this Greek specialty to the table. For a quick meal, grill or sauté the sausage in a skillet and then top it with a squeeze of fresh lemon.

Homemade Mexican Pork Chorizo

Authentic Mexican chorizo is traditionally made from pork and traces its roots back to the Iberian peninsula. This Spanish legacy has flourished in Mexico which is widely used in taquerias and households everywhere! We make ours in-house with traditional spices and freshly ground pork, using this zesty sausage in MANY of our homemade recipes like our popular Beef and Chorizo Spaghetti (available in our prepared foods section). You can use this for breakfast dishes like chorizo with eggs (side of beans please) or with other Mexican favorites like chorizo tortas, tacos, and tostadas.
